Logbook #8: What's Up Slime?

Dear Logbook,

I've been busy in my freetime doing gamey stuff. Wanting a small break from my medium-sized project (Roadtrip Apocalypse) I entered into a game jam. The PIGsquad game jam (https://itch.io/jam/pigsquadtabletopjam2024) lured me in with its theme: little guys. So me and my three brain cells spontaneously came up with name: Slime Fighters. Disregarding the excessive use of colons, the game revolves around you building a slime fighter out of smaller little slimes, and fighting big monsters in an arena. Two cool mechanics I've amalgamated from other sources are: Action Clocks and Zones/Areas. Action clocks are pretty much ripped from an obscure video game called, 'Pokemon: Legends Arceus'. Each moving piece has a die that counts down, when it reaches zero, you move. Different actions and abilities can increase or decrease that number. The other neat mechanic is something I come up with for a game about bees fighting flower monsters. That game never clicked, but some of the ideas mesh well with this game. All positions on the board are based on the monster in the center: a front, two flanking, a back, and a mounted position. Different positions have different strong suits against different monsters. Some monsters are weak from the front but deal the most damage from there as well. Stuff like that, you know? Just some cool game design stuff. Got a whole brain's worth of it.

As much fun as this has been, I gotta go to bed at some point. Go touch some grass and have a great day.

P.S I got you lucky ducks a sneak peak at some of the digital work I've done so far (not final, but it'll probably look a lot like this).
