Logbook #5: Creative Juices

Dear Logbook,

Hey. I went on a short little vacation and did some introspective gamey, designy thinking. I'm working through an issue with Hat Trick, I'm just not sold on its execution. I could just whip up a one-page document and call her good, but no. I won't put out a game that I don't like, and I don't like Hat Trick. In one way or another Hat Trick/Faceoff will eventually make its way onto this site, but it's being shelved for now.

I did however come up with a new cool idea. For context I like to browse RPGs and Board Games on Kickstarter. I came across this swedish-themed RPG whose name I cannot recall. But it had this optional mechanic called the tower of doom. You'd like stack dice when you took damage or wanted to do something cool. But you couldn;t stack the dice too high otherwise it would all fall down and you'd fail. This concept combined with the fact that I've been playing a lot of Helldivers 2 (for democracy!! Revenge for space vietnam!) lately has birthed an interesting concept. Taking the stratagems from the video game and the tower of doom concept and mixing them up in a creative blender could result in some pretty metal stuff.

I'll try and post a screenshot of some design pages in my notebook tomorrow or something. By the way, to the like 4 people who actually get this far, you should take up notebooking. It's a really awesome way to just get everything little weird thought you have out on paper. I highly recommend 'decomposition notebooks' they're all that I've been using lately. After years of notebooking and like a dozen filled, I can say that it works.

Ok. Thanks for reading. Call your mother (or father) and tell them you love them. Cheers!

Mason
